Our Iraq small group is currently going through a book study by Timothy Keller called "Gospel in Life". It is, at its core, a calling of Jesus followers back to the power of the Gospel. (At least that is how it is hitting me personally).
I say it's a calling back because I think we often are impressed by the Good News of Jesus, we are saved by the power of the Gospel, we are delivered...but back then. Back when we were baby Christians. Back when we had something from which to be saved. We keep it as a past event rather than a present power.
If the American church is going to have an effect on its host culture, if we are truly going to grow the Kingdom of Jesus in physical and spiritual ways it must be by the power of the Gospel. We must be re-impressed by that Good News. We must recommit ourselves to knowing Jesus. We must know why he was and still is the power of the Gospel...for the saved and unsaved.
