From Janet Horner
I just really don't know where to start...what an amazing experience we are all having! From the moment we left Philly our team was bonding and getting to know each other better than ever. Every day has brought new experiences...the hard work in the hot sun has never seemed more worth it. The people we've met have been so warm and welcoming.
Some of the conditions I've seen I will never forget....so many dogs just wandering around...the houses and neighborhoods and stores in disrepair...dusty dirt roads...yet smiles everywhere! Yesterday morning we were back at the worksite to do more work on the church for Pastor Francisco.
In the afternoon we had our first day of VBS. Over 30 kids showed up. They loved Henry the puppet and the crafts games and songs...I'll never forget their adorable faces. I am in awe of Tammy and Rick and the way they work tirelessly 24 hours a day to serve God.
After a delicious dinner of beef stew and rice and refried beans cooked with love by Laida, the youth group went to do their performance at a local church and we stayed at the Romano's house and sat outside in the beautiful night and were treated to an impromptu concert by Sammy on guitar accompanied by his wife Laida who sings like an angel!
We were all dog tired, but after a good nights sleep , we are ready to do it all over again today....the weather forecast for today is sunny and 101 degrees!
Love never fails
Janet
