Trip to Iraq: In Turkey We Stand

It's Sunday April 17th, and it's REALLY raining here in Istanbul, Turkey.
We left left FAC at 11:30 this morning with a fantastic send-off--we felt the love, we felt the prayers, we ate the food--Thank you! From FAC we headed to JFK Airport in New York (Thanks, Ron, for driving us!), where we were pleasantly greeted by a Delta attendant who took it upon herself to help us all check in. The Lord is good; we got to our gate with no problems. Then it was off to Istanbul--a 10-hour flight with, again, no problems. We hitched a shuttle to our hotel, checked in and got a few hours of sleep.
We met in the lobby at 4 p.m. Istanbul time (9 a.m. FAC time)  for  a snack and a time of sharing. We're each assigned a night to share with the team, and this was my night. I felt led to share from Proverbs 11:1--to become truly balanced in the Lord--1 Cor: 11:31 (Do all for the glory of the Lord) and 1 Jn 2:15-17 (what we do for the Lord will last forever). We're all very excited to be here, but more excited to be leaving here tomorrow to begin our journey to Iraq.
Please continue praying for us; pray that we unite as a team dedicated to His cause and His purposes. Pray for the people of Iraq--for their hearts. We are praying for a home run.  Also, I'd like to convey for all of us that we miss our families. I miss my fantastic wife, Johanna, and my kids, Pace and Schyler. I shared tonight that my desire is that missing me on these trips when they are little will spur them to take these types of trips; that they will take risks for the Lord.
In closing, I found a great statement that I wrote in my Bible back in 1985 (wow, I am old!): "When things get hot, it's because God is boiling the impurities out of me/us."
Love to all at FAC.---Matthew MacMichael
